Francis Bacon

(Dublin, 1909 - Madrid, 1992) English painter of Irish origin, a leading figure in the so-called New Figuration, a trend that developed throughout the 1960s, after the exhaustion of informalism. In the post-war art scene, the figurative expressionism of Francis Bacon occupies a separate place, which is difficult to relate to some of the different artistic trends that run through those years. Bacon's entire pictorial trajectory is characterized by a profound independence, which makes his painting an unmistakable reference point for European art of the second half of the 20th century. Bacon also greatly influenced the artists of the English pop movement.
