Catherine Vanveden

Dutch artist.

His works have more abstract forms, the classical elements and studies often inspire his new works. Trained as a sculptor, her work focuses on the physical. In colour, form, technique, process, material informs her work. Working with a feminist approach, much of her work speaks of her personal experiences as a woman.

Like many other girls in her time, she worked as a nurse. It was not until many years later that she was able to do what she really wanted to do: study at the fashion academy and later become a sculptor. Today, Catharina fearlessly projects her feminine identity, using tactile forms, bright colours and commonly masculine shapes. As a mother and grandmother, the artist feels open to address issues such as sex, drugs, power or wealth. Catharina confronts each viewer. Several important themes are present in her work series: power - strength - lust - tranquillity. When her work began, she initially associated power within the masculine and strength within the feminine, being internal. As his work progressed, he confronted this misconception and found both power and strength in the feminine, both internal and external.
