Toni Cañestro
Madrid, 1971.
"Impulsive, fast and disorderly..." are three of the adjectives that define Toni Cañestro in his day to day life, but nevertheless in his work, the opposite is reflected, the hand of a mathematical, analytical person who seeks balance, smoothness and subtlety. Undoubtedly, his art is the perfect antithesis of his person.
The mobile sculptures with their own style are his main sign of identity. Art in movement is the artistic expression of the space-time relationship that he tries to materialise in each of his sculptures, inviting us to stop for a moment and appreciate the here and now.
He uses recycled materials that were going to be thrown away, natural or industrial materials that have not been treated and that maintain a robust appearance, but which by the way they are used show their most elegant version in a delicate and soft piece. The industrial cut is the main protagonist together with the highest quality marble that has not been treated, as well as the aluminium bars that are cut without polishing.
