Miguel Rodríguez Acosta
Granada, Spain, 1927
Miguel Rodríguez-Acosta Carlström (Granada, 1927), is a painter, sculptor, illustrator and engraver. At the age of five, he already frequented the studio of his uncle, the painter José María Rodríguez-Acosta. In 1940 he attended drawing and painting classes at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades of Granada. The first exhibition in which he participates, in 1941, is the collective Novel Artists that takes place in the Casa de los Tiros de Granada. In 1950 he moved to Madrid, where he continued his training at the Superior School of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Here he gets the title of professor. His first solo exhibition takes place in 1957 in Granada, in the same place where he made his first collective. Until 1961 he develops his pedagogical activity in the Chair of Color and Composition of the Superior School of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Between 1976 and 1979 he studied engraving techniques at the Maeght Foundation of Saint Paul de Vence. His work evolves from a post-cubism of classicist air to abstract impressionism with a lyrical root. In 1986 he was appointed corresponding academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and in 1991, a full member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. In addition to his plastic work highlights his work of cultural patronage from the Foundation Rodríguez-Acosta de Granada, whose board has been president since 1953. In 2002 the Conde-Duque Cultural Center of Madrid has dedicated the retrospective exhibition Steps in the garden. He currently works and resides in Granada.
