Manuel Salinas

Seville, Spain, 1940-2021

An individualist and self-taught, the key to the vault of his painting lies in a very intuitive way of reconciling gesture, construction, freedom and order, and in his sensation of colour, which he knows how to modulate, qualify and nuance in a unique way. He remained on the fringes of artistic trends, defending his abstract style, whose compositions with shapes and colours refer to architecture and music.

In his work, there is a case of identification between painting and workshop, which already belongs to the sentimental imaginary of the many who have frequented it in recent decades. In his painting, he continues to throw that Spanish moment to which he belongs in a very broad way.

Among his great achievements we must highlight his presence in major collections, from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Colección BBVA, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Patio Herreriano de Valladolid to the Fundación La Caixa, among others. He has also taken his work to Portugal, the United States, Colombia and Sweden, although his major solo exhibition was held in 2003 at the Museum of Art in Romania, inaugurated by the King and Queen of Spain at the time, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía.

His hometown awarded him the Gold Medal of Seville in 2016 in recognition of his acclaimed career.
